James Hodges, Jr. was born in Fernwood, MS on February 22, 1947. He was the son of James and Norma Louise Gatlin Hodges who preceded him in death. James was called from his earthly home on Thursday, April 21, 2022. At an early age, James accepted Christ as his personal Savior, was baptized and united with Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Pleasant Grove Community until he moved his membership to Pleasant Grove East McComb Missionary Baptist Church in McComb, MS where he remained until his death. James attended Eva Gordon Attendance Center where he graduated high school. He was a star football player and an honor student. He learned much from his father of the carpentry trade and was always willing to help out when family and friends needed him. He loved to cook for himself and others and was quick to brag about his cooking ability. He was also handy at gardening. James was a gentle and caring person. He frequently gave to animal charities, feed the people, St. Jude and other charities. He fed many stray cats and dogs that came around. In other words, he was unselfish in sharing what he had with the less fortunate. James was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and two sisters, Katherine H. Banks and Jacqueline Hodges. He is survived by five (5) children whom he dearly loved and was very proud of; Perry Quin (Sid) Atlanta, GA; Jerry Hodges (Vinittia) Riverside, CA; Demetra J. Rawlins (Russell) Compton, CA; Tyreka Nicole Hodges (Arcell) Brusly, LA; Samantha Lisha McElveen, Tylertown, MS; Six (6) grandchildren; Kailyn Rawlins, Amber Rawlins, Swaa Jackson, Jerry Hodges, Jr., Ayanna Renee Williams; Isaiah Hodges, and one (1) great granddaughter, Seven Jackson. His surviving brothers and sisters are: Rosetta Phillip, LaPlace, LA; Taimus Hodges (Diane), Apple Valley, CA; Juanita H. Pounds, Magnolia, MS; Norma J. Hodges, McComb, MS; Dennis Wl Hodges (Myrtis), McComb, MS; Grover C. Hodges, McComb, MS; Craig L. Hodges, McComb, MS; Floyd R. Hodges (Debbie), Magnolia, MS; Napoleon M. Hodges (Faye); Janice M. Hodges, Ft. Wayne, IN; Ralph L. Hodges, Cornelia, GA; Patricia Hodges of California; a special friend and mother of Samantha and Tyreka, Ginger McElveen and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. A visitation is scheduled for Mr. Hodges at 11:00am, Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Pleasant Grove East McComb Baptist Church. Funeral Services will start at 12:00pm, following the visitation at the same location, with Interment to follow in Tylertown Cemetery. Rev. Hilton Harrell will officiate the funeral service.
